Poll: Nearly Two-Thirds of New Yorkers Favor Medical Cannabis
Various medical marijuana bills were introduced within the Empire State over the last 12 years. The Assembly has previously passed legislation on two occasions, however, medical pot failed to make it to the floor of either house for a vote this year.
Nonetheless, a new poll conducted by Cornell University found that almost two-thirds of recent Yorkers are in favor of medical marijuana.
The greatest support for medical pot was found in upstate residents (67 percent – other than 62 percent of downstate residents). 66 percent of Democrats support legalization for medical use while 48 percent of Republicans are against it.
Additionally, the poll found that more men supported medical cannabis than women and higher income households were prone to favor medical marijuana legislation.
A previous poll conducted by Quinnipiac University in February found that 71 percent of latest York voters were in favor of legalizing medical marijuana.
