Marijuana and the Gateway Drug Theory
A new study conducted by researchers at the University of latest Hampshire says that life circumstances – similar to economic hardships, stress and unemployment – are a more likely “gateway” to harder drugs than marijuana.
The findings are based on data collected from 1,286 teenagers from Florida public schools.
According to steer researcher Dr. Karen Van Gundy, “There appears to be like this concept that we will be able to prevent later drug problems by guaranteeing kids never smoke pot … But whether marijuana smokers go on to take advantage of other illicit drugs depends more on social factors … not so much whether they smoked a joint inside the eight grade.”
