The government doesn’t want to end the war on drugs, because its filled with a bunch of crooks and cronies that make massive amounts of money on private prisons, arm’s sales, and sometimes even illicit drug sales (Iran-Contra affair).

I personally think the USSR and US interest in Afghanistan has to do with the strategic advantage of being close to Iran. The Soviets, knowing the unpopularity of the Shah, wanted to give weapons to Iranian communist groups to ultimately have access to their oil. America’s government wants essentially the same thing.

This opium produced by poor Afghan farmers must be used for medical purpose instead for drug addiction. opium was cultivated by the British in the past in these regions and was used all around the world. Use Opium for a good reason and save the Afghan farmers who sell 1Kg of Opium for under 50$s to drug trafficers who make millions using it.
